General Information:
Between George and Plattenberg bay is the Wilderness National Park, right on South Africa’s famed garden route. Wilderness National Park was once more in the wilderness, but now is quite central to the communities that surround it. With the rivers emptying through it, the forest coming down to the water and with the mountains in the background the beauty is astounding. Pick the right time of year, and the flower will be blooming and the surfers out on the waves.
Wilderness National Park is home to the Bushbuck, Vervet monkey and Caracal that fun freely in this park. The main wildlife attractions in this park are Knysna Seahorse, Pansy Shell, Pied Kingfisher, Grey Heron and the Little Egret. The Wilderness National Park is an action packed vacation spot for the family whenever the weather is right and a wonderful place to enjoy a vacation along the garden route.
Highlights:
- Dolphin Point – Watch the whales & dolphins
- Outdoor activities – Hire a canoe or bicycle, go abseiling, kloofing, paragliding or hang-gliding
- Island Lake – Go boating & fishing
- Hiking - Ebb & Flow Rest Camp is a wonderful waterfall. There are other forest paths to enjoy.
- Birding – Enjoy the bird hide and spot some of the more rare species like the Pied Kingfisher, Grey Heron & the Little Egret
Accommodation:
- Wilderness Ebb-and-Flow Rest Camp - This rest camp is split up into North and South.
- North Camp is made up of two bed rondavels equipped with bathroom, shower and basic kitchen equipment.
- South Camp is more the family side of the camp with family cottages & log cabins with partially equipped kitchens and four beds.
- Camping can be found on both the north and south sides of the camp. Shared bathrooms and cooking areas are available, but portable BBQs are available at the reception. Some of the RV spots in South Camp come equipped with electrical outlets.
