SANBONA WILDLIFE RESERVE – SOUTH AFRICA

Not all of South Africa’s greatest game reserves are in or around the Kruger National Park.  If you have plans to visit a different part of the country there are many private game reserves such as Sanbona Wildlife Reserve which offer the same big game experience, but closer to cities such as Cape Town and Durban.

Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is nestled in the heart of the Cape Garden route, an easy two to three hour drive out of Cape Town and within a few hours of dozens of stunning wine farms, beaches and nature reserves.  It offers world-class private nature reserve accommodation, an enviable selection of facilities and activities for both adults and children, and one of the richest populations of Big Five game outside of the Kruger National Park.

Highlights

  • Three luxurious lodges dotted around this picturesque nature reserve – each specifically tailored for either the ultimate luxury safari, a fun family safari holiday or romantic seclusion for you and someone special
  • All suites equipped with international dial telephones, mini bars, en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning
  • Conference facilities and dedicated conference and business function staff
  • Wedding specials and honeymoon suites
  • Photography courses
  • Special star-gazing evenings where you’ll have a chance to see the Milky Way like never before, and learn something about the stars you can see from the Southern Hemisphere

Extras:

  • Dozens of children’s activities, and staff specially dedicated to entertaining and educating children on conservation topics and the wildlife in the area
  • A wide selection of game drives, walks, guided tours and bird watching activities
  • A choice of third-party activities such as white river rafting and horse riding

Access:

  • A little over two hours’ drive from Cape Town
  • It is also possible to take a longer (approximately five hours, depending on stops) tour of the wine route and garden route, stopping off at some of the area’s famous wine estates where you can buy world-class wines for as little as $5 per bottle
