General Information:
As a reserve to protect two of South Africa’s most endangered animals, the riverine rabbit and the black rhinoceros, Karoo National Park has become a model to many others and is admired the world over for its ability to pull back animals from the brink of extinction. For a great view of the Karoo and to visit one of the main attractions of the park, drive to the Klipspringer Mountain Pass.
Highlights:
- The Klipspringer Mountain Pass
- Hiking trails are found throughout the park – some have information pamphlets to accompany the walk
- Drive the 90km Nuweveld EcoTrail or the 13km Afsaal Trail
- Visit the bird hide at the main camp
- Have a BBQ lunch and a swim at the Bulkraal picnic spot
- Night drives (under the guidance of SANParks staff)
- Game, Fossil and Fauna viewing
Accommodation:
The main rest camp in the park, located 12km west of Beaufort West has three types of accommodation available – all of which are serviced daily and come with a complementary breakfast. A family cottage sleeps six, a chalet sleeps two and a cottage sleeps 3. All have full kitchens.
Caravan and camping areas are also found in the park and have both water and electricity connections.
Access:
The park is located just outside of Beaufort West along the N1 highway.
