The Shenton Family

  • Kaingo is owned and run by the Shenton family.
  • Derek Shenton, the son of Barry Shenton (who was a ranger in Luangwa and a warden of Kafue National Park) built the camp in 1992.
  • This hands-on running of the camp ensures the utmost attention to detail when it comes to your stay.

The Views

  • With large windows throughout the camp, guests are given stunning views of the river, uninterrupted by the hum of generators.
  • Each chalet has a voluminous outdoor bathtub with shady views of a pod of hippos in the river.
  • Each chalet has a private deck, built over the river – from here one can see animals coming down to drink in the heat of the day as well as birds, crocodiles, hippos and a daily elephant crossing.

Big Cats

  • Kaingo is perfectly situated to see two highly productive lion prides.
  • There are more than 10 individual leopards living around Kaingo and 95% of visitors should be lucky enough to see one.

Directions

The most common departure points for Lusaka (the capital of Zambia) are Johannesburg and London. It is also reachable from Lilongwe, Nairobi and Harare quite easily. From Lusaka, you will have to fly to Mfuwe airport, where a representative from Kaingo will meet you. From there it is roughly a three hour drive to the Kaingo camp, through some of the park’s most prime game viewing areas.
