AGULHAS NATIONAL PARK – SOUTH AFRICA

General Information:

Located on the southernmost tip of the African continent, Agulhas National Park sits on the “Cape of Storms” where many myths have taken root and adventures embarked upon as sailors challenged the Indian to Atlantic crossing.  Agulhas National Park is a new addition to the national parks program in South Africa and brings with it the spirit of adventure and history claiming home to Africa’s third oldest lighthouse and a lush natural environment of protected plant life and amazing geological formations.

Highlights:

  • Agulhas Lighthouse
  • The meeting of the Atlantic and the Indian oceans
  • 250+ Shipwrecks
  • Abundant Fynbos Flora with blooming between May and September
  • Coastal nature trails – one leading to the Southernmost point on the continent.

Accommodation:

Currently there are no overnight facilities in the park, but after some recent legal maneuvering between the South African National Parks and the Suidpunt Environmental Alliance the project has been approved and hopes to be completed soon.  Struisbaai  and L’Agulhas offer hotels and guesthouses that should serve you well if yo want to visit Agulhas and spend the night somewhere close.
